January 12, 2010 Design Discovery: Tuft Love The prolific designer Barry Goralnick, a Cape Cod native, has produced an impressive new collection of hand-tufted and Tibetan rugs. Inspired by such mid-century design stars as Billy Baldwin, James Mont, William Haines and Paul Frankl, Goralnick uses images both classic (the Greek key, paisley and Chinese boxes) and surprising (the iconic New York subway token, windmills and the jacks we played with as kids), giving each a fresh, contemporary twist. The color palette ranges from serene neutrals to uplifting shades like the vibrant mix of blues shown here in Interlocking Circles, perfect for spring redecorating. And the whole collection is made with natural silks, jute and wool. Available at Stark Carpets, Boston Design Center, (617) 357-5525, www.goralnickdesign.com. —Paula M. Bodah more design discoveries |
